I was lucky enough to get an exclusive look at 3 of the 5 makeup tins in their limited edition collection and share photos with my readers and write an honest review about the makeup. Each of these limited edition tins features one out of the five bandmates of One Direction. The tins I received feature Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik from One Direction.
Besides my review of these makeup tins along with makeup swatches, there is also a giveaway in this post! Don’t forget to check the end of this post to enter for your chance to win your own limited edition Makeup by One Direction Tin.

First Impressions:
The only difference between the 5 limited edition One Direction Makeup tins is that the cover features one of the five bandmates in One Direction. When you open the tin, the inside cover is very colorful and presents the names of the makeup colors in an artful way. There is even a printed autograph from the bandmate in the left corner. When you remove the plastic makeup tray, you will see a sticky note printed with the words “Hello Beautiful!! xo” on the tin.

All these limited edition One Direction Makeup Tins have the same selection of colors for its eye shadows, eye pencil, lip glosses, and nail polishes. You don’t have to worry that you are missing out on a color palette because you chose Harry over Liam, Niall, Louis, or Zayn.

Review
The Eye Shadows:
The colors are all nicely pigmented but there are a few shades that don't show up well because of my skin tone. If you really want the colors to pop when you wear them, I suggest applying a white eye shadow underneath and it will solve the problem.

For instance, the metallic mint color (Same Mistakes) and nude pink (Tell Me A Lie) don’t show clearly on my yellow skin tone so I would use this trick to make it appear. The metallic shades remove easily with just water but the smoky shades leave a stain so you need to use a makeup removing cleanser.

My favorite colors out of the eye shadow palette are the silver (Nobody Compares), purple
(Summer Love), and dark grey (Everything About You).
The Eye Pencil:
I wasn't too impressed with this eye pencil. I prefer mine to be a darker black and it is one that fades over time. You will have to carry it with you to reapply. However, the pencil does glide smoothly on the skin. This pencil has a light scent.

The Lip Gloss:
These are nice selections of nude to bright pinks. It wasn’t too sticky on my lips, which makes it better than most lip glosses. It is the right amount of shine with a light sweet scent. The bright pinks showed up a lot better than the nude shades for me.

The Lip Gloss Top Coat:
The glitter pieces look amazing in the tube but once you use it, it isn’t as pigmented. You barely can see the glitter pieces when wearing it alone or on top of any of the lip glosses from this kit. This lip gloss top coat has a very strange scent that I am not a fan of either making it my least favorite of this set.

The Nail Varnish/Polish:
I really like the colors included in the limited edition One Direction Makeup Tin. Both of these colors didn’t chip as quickly as I thought they would and look amazing. You only need 2 coats to reach opacity for the color “Stole My Heart.” It’s a vibrant magenta pink with pink and blue shimmer. This is a very fun color to wear.
The other color in the set called, “Alive” works well as a glittery top coat for accent nails or can be worn alone. The color is clear with blue, silver, and pink hexagon glitter pieces. I think this is great to wear during the holiday season or for a New Year’s Eve party.

So here comes the struggle. It took forever to get the brushes out from the plastic because you really have to pry to get them out. My fingers are small yet, I still couldn’t remove them without using a small object to help me. If you really want to use the ones from the Makeup by One Direction tin then you will need something small or thin like a toothpick or metal nail file to pop it out.
I had better luck by removing the whole plastic makeup tray first and then pushing from the back. It is a lot harder to take these tools out with the makeup tray still inside the tin. You might still need something to pry the whole makeup tray out.
When I finally got the lip gloss brush out from the plastic, I couldn’t pull the plastic tube cover off the brush and it felt like it was glued onto it. Eventually, I realized I had to twist the plastic cover to be able to remove it. The lip gloss brush is very poor quality. As I was using it, the bristles were falling apart and into the gloss or onto my lips. I ended up using my own lipstick brush to get the rest of the glosses on for the swatch photo.
I highly recommend using your own makeup brushes if you have them because they would apply the makeup better than the brushes from the set. An eye shadow brush will give you better control and coverage than using the dual-ended sponge applicator.

Final Thoughts
Most of the makeup in this beauty collection is of decent quality for its price. I think they should have used a more flexible plastic to hold the makeup. The one that they used in the One Direction Makeup Tin makes it difficult to get the makeup out unless you remove the whole tray. I really like that the One Direction collectible tin can be repurposed to hold anything you want and has a nice design to it. Most fans will really appreciate the creativity put into designing it.
I would rate the limited edition Makeup by One Direction tins a 4 out of 5. I would give it a full 5 stars rating if it was easier to remove items from the makeup tray and if the lip gloss top coat, eyeliner, and makeup brushes were of better quality. Despite the negatives, this is still a lovely beauty set to gift for anyone that likes makeup or is a fan of One Direction. It includes the essentials and colors that appeal to most girls and women.

Great post as usual! I need to get a camera. I only have my phone right now. What kind of camera are you using?

Hi Shea, I have been using my iphone 5 camera but I have to take a bunch of pictures sometimes to get clear photos because I don't always use the flash. I plan to invest in a digi-cam soon.
