Review: Pura Dor Shampoo, Conditioner, and Argan Oil

Pura D'or is a new organic haircare brand that makes all their products free of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), parabens, and gluten. They are a best seller on Amazon for the "shampoos and conditioners" category.

I was sent a hair care kit to test and keep so I could write an honest review for my readers about how well this product performed. This post includes lots of photos with swatches as well as before and after shots.

The kit arrived with the following, which can be purchased separately on their website:

1 x Premium Organic Argan Oil Based Hair Loss Prevention Shampoo
1 x Premium Organic Argan Oil Based Conditioner in Lavender Vanilla
1 x Pure and Organic Argan Oil

They are having a special promotion just for the month of February with a special coupon code to get 10% off and a free gift with your order. The details can be found in this post.

"For more than four years, Pura d'or has been growing a culture planted on a natural set of values and beliefs. But when all is said and done it comes down to one unified mission—to create organic personal care solutions that naturally work.

All our ingredients are grown on trees, not in test tubes. Our products are artisanally handcrafted by a hybrid team of artists and scientists, not by machines. Some say that this is a step backward, but we believe that this is a step in the direction of how things should be

Pura d'or creates better beauty products from ingredients that are not only naturally beneficial, but are also sustainably grown and raised with respect for the animals that eat them and the people who produce them." -- Pura D'or (www.purador.com)

According to the company, these three products are safe for daily use and can be used by both men and women. I really like that Pura D'or provides complimentary FREE shipping on all orders to addresses in the continental U.S.

About the Product:

Review:
I really like that both bottles come with a pump dispenser making it easy to get the product out. The shampoo has a herbal based scent while the conditioner has a strong lavender vanilla scent. If you like aromatherapy then both of these scents might suit your tastes.

Before Photo - The day before I used Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingling Shampoo and Conditioner
When applying the shampoo to my hair, it felt light and not greasy. My hair did not feel like straw and didn't get tangled while I was working it into my hair and I could feel my hair become smooth.

Rinsing out, the shampoo easily washed out of my hair without harsh massaging. If you are looking for a huge amount of foam and bubbles, this shampoo doesn't do that because it has no SLS. There was even a squeak sound when I glided my hand across my hair so this is a clarifying shampoo.

When it came time to apply the conditioner, I used a very small amount because my hair is much shorter now. It was not too greasy or oily like other brands of Argan oil based conditioners. I like the scent it left in my hair. Smoothing it through my hair it felt slick.

I was able to rinse it clean off my skin with no conditioner residue left behind, which is what makes or breaks a conditioner for me because my skin is sensitive to breakouts.

I didn't experience any adverse skin reactions when using both Pura D'or's shampoo and conditioner. It felt very gentle on the scalp and moisturizing for my hair strands.

I applied the Pura D'or Argan Oil serum afterwards when my hair was still wet and it felt too greasy even after blow-drying.

Hair after blow dry with Pura D'or Argan Oil serum

I don't think I will be using the serum on my hair because it just sat on top of it and didn't absorb. After touching my hair and looking at my hands I could see the shininess of the Argan oil hair serum.

After Photo: Round 1 - With Pura D'or Argan Oil serum.
I didn't like how my hair looked at all. It was way too flat and greasy.

I decided to blow dry my hair for the "after" photo and I think using the argan oil serum helped protect it from heat damage but I ended up looking like a greasy mess and very flat. I was not impressed at all and had to re-wash my hair because of how oily it felt and looked.

After round 2 of shampooing and conditioning with Pura D'or and blow drying, I saw a big difference. My hair looked 100 times better without the Argan Oil hair serum in it. I think for my hair type it isn't necessary to add the serum to the hair.

Hair after blow-drying using just the Pura D'or Shampoo and Conditioner
I really like how well the shampoo and conditioner products worked together but will probably use the Argan oil serum for my cuticles, dry skin, or to tame random flyaway frizz. Would not recommend using it through your whole head of hair.

After Photo: Round 2 - Without Argan Oil Serum
I really like how my hair looks without the serum after blow-drying.
My hair looked super voluminous in person and silky.
My hair after round 2 doesn't feel weighed down or heavy. It looks voluminous and shiny (without using the Argan oil serum). I think the Argan oil serum would work well to tame frizz after blowdrying but apply a very very tiny drop or else your hair might look very greasy.

Definitely recommending the Pura D'or shampoo and conditioner for sufferers of frizz, limp flat hair, or dullness in color if it matches your price point. The Pura D'or Argan Oil serum I am not a huge fan of and think it doesn't work as well as the one from InstaNatural.

  1. What a great review! I too recently reviewed this item and found that it works! I passed it onto my friend who needed it even more than I did and they also LOVE it! In fact they replaced their expensive salon product with this and they are finding more success!

  5. Your round 2 pics look great. That shampoo is the business at cleaning the hair; so fast and easy. My hair is super thick so it drank up that conditioner like nobody's business. I'll be using the argan oil on my cuticles too.
