Review: Yardley London Shea Buttermilk Soap (Sensitive Skin)

Yardley London Shea Buttermilk Soap (Sensitive Skin)
Yardley London is an affordable body soap that is not only gentle but free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, and artificial dyes. These ingredients can be irritating for some skin types. The Yardley London Shea Buttermilk soap is made for those who have sensitive skin and is a part of their "Botanical Bath Bar Collection." Their products are not tested on animals.

I pick this up on my last trip to the Dollar Tree because I randomly found it. I got it for just $1. What a bargain right? Whenever I find Yardley London soap bars elsewhere it costs about $1.97 for one bar.

A closer look at the ingredients for Yardley London's Shea Buttermilk Soap
Active Ingredients:
- Chamomile : soothes the skin and calms irritation
- Shea Butter: moisturizes dry skin
- Buttermilk: exfoliator to remove dead skin cells

*This does not contain parabens/sulfates/artificial dyes.
*This is not fragrance-free.

This is one of the few brands I have seen where they translate for you on the packaging what some ingredients are in layman's terms so you aren't just reading the scientific classification and being like "I have no clue what this is" when coming across an ingredient. Let's be honest, not everyone is an expert in chemistry.

Size of soap relative to the box.
The soap itself is an average size with a milky scent (like when you heat up a cup of milk) in addition to a very light floral fragrance. You can really smell the scent of the soap much better once it hits water as opposed to when its a dry bar. What attracted me to this soap is because it contains buttermilk.

In Asia, there are many soaps and body washes containing milk promoting whiter, softer skin with promises to rid it of dead skill cells. I know buttermilk and milk are not exactly the same but both are still natural exfoliators. So let's see how well Yardley London's Shea Buttermilk Soap works.

When you are using the soap, it doesn't form a rich lather full of bubbles like other brands because it is missing sodium lauryl sulfate (sls). As you rub your skin when rinsing, you can hear a squeaky sound letting you know it exfoliates the dead skin off your hands and removed whatever dirt was on them.

You can use this for just washing hands or as a body cleanser. I used this to wash my hands when writing this review and I can say it is not harsh and left my hands feeling soft, smooth, and clean. When using it in the shower, it gives the same results and no irritation like it promises so you can have piece of mind that it will not cause breakouts. It leaves you with a nice faint fragrance that lingers on your skin after rinsing too.

Like other Yardley London soaps I have tried, this soap bar will shrink quickly if it is always in contact with water. Just make sure you keep this soap away from the direction of your showerhead and not sitting in a puddle.

For the price and it being tender to sensitive skin, I highly recommend trying Yardley London Shea Buttermilk Soap if your skin is easily irritated by soaps with fragrances or if you are looking for something free of parabens/sulfates/artificial dyes.

Have you tried Yardley London's soaps before? What did you think of them?

  1. I swear we think so alike! I was just thinking about this little gem the other day and how it is such a good brand and nice product and SO inexpensive! We too have it in our local Dollar Tree and I can't believe it because "back in the day" this was only found at a bath shop which was very high dollar! Great review!

    1. "I swear we think so alike!" -- I am starting to think so too. That's so crazy. xD As for the soap, I wonder why it has become so cheap now but am glad it is. :D

  2. I adore Yardley London soap. It is the only bar soap I will buy. My favorites are the lavender or the oatmeal bars. They are carried in my local grocery store so I can pick them up whenever <3

  4. Perhaps it's the element of fragrance that's irritating to me; based upon the language on the box, I purchased three, and ended up grating up all 3 for use in the laundry. Perhaps being a Tub bather vs. shower makes a difference; I found this soap fine for arms, legs, face...but in delicate area, could NOT rinse it off fast enough! Which is a Bummer, because I used to rely on the Oatmeal soap, and thought this one could be trusted. Might as well have been Avon and heavily perfumed.
