Living in a humid climate, it makes it easy for leather to become moldy or become sticky. With my leather jackets, handbags, and even belts sitting in my closet for 10 months out of the year it is bound to happen.

I found out about Leather Nova and liked that their products are all natural and non-toxic. I contacted the company about letting me try their product in exchange for a review. Leather Nova sent me these three products to test and keep so I can share with my readers the results good or bad.
"We only use natural and non-toxic ingredients to make our products environmentally-friendly. Unlike other companies, we do not compromise the health and safety of our customers for high profits. We take pride in introducing a wide range of non-toxic leather care products to the world. Finally, we only manufacture in small batches so we can concentrate on quality control." - Leather Nova

I tested these 3 leather cleaning products on two different leather jackets that have started to get mold spots and losing their color brightness from sitting in my closet for too long.

The leather cleaning set I received came with the following and you can order these individually online through Amazon.com:

1. Leather Nova Leather Cleaner

Product Testing Phase

Jacket 1 - Red-Purple Leather:

I used Leather Nova Leather Cleaner on Jacket 1.

First, I lightly misted the target areas with the Leather Nova Leather Cleaner. Then I used the yellow microfiber cloth that came with the bottle to rub the solution into the jacket with circular motions (You know how to "wax on, wax off" ^.~).

The leather jacket hasnt been conditioned for over 10 years and the color is dull.

You can see the small white mold spots more clearly here.

The sun went behind the clouds in this photo so the coat looks purple.

Immediately after wiping the solution, the white small mold spots disappeared and onto the cloth. It was quick and easy. After cleaning off the white spots all over the jacket 1, I then applied the Leather Nova Leather Conditioner.

I used Leather Nova Leather Conditioner on Jacket 1.

I poured a few drops of the Leather Nova Leather Conditioner onto the yellow foam sponge that came with the bottle repeating the same circular motions to spread it onto all areas of the jacket.

When working with the conditioner, it is like you are working with oil so your hands will feel a little greasy but it was easy to remove with hand soap. After covering the whole jacket with the Leather Nova Leather Conditioner, all that was left is to wait for it to dry, which takes about 1 hour.

Jacket 2 - Black Leather:

I used Leather Nova 2-in-1 Conditioner and Cleaner on Jacket 2.

With this jacket, I used the Leather Nova 2-in-1 Leather Cleaner and Conditioner, which is a leather cleaner, leather conditioner, and leather preserver all in one bottle. What makes this different from the other two bottles is that it promises to prevent the leather from collecting dust or losing color for 1 month.

As you can see the white spots are mold spots from sitting in the closet.

The humidity here makes white mold spots more likely to appear on leather.

The formula for this looks similar to white shampoo. Squeezing out a small amount onto the white circular microfiber sponge, I then applied this to the leather.

With a couple wipes, it gently removed the dirt and white mold spots from the jacket. It quickly picked up any grime without having to apply a lot of pressure onto the leather as well. You can see how much dust and dirt it collected over the years by looking at the sponge when you are finished. For my black jacket it was a lot!

After wiping the whole jacket down, the next step was to wait about 35-45 minutes to dry. Once it is dry and ready, the last optional step is to use a damp cloth to buff the jacket to help the leather look shinier.

When I finished applying all products, I washed the microfiber cloths and sponges with soap, water, and soaked them in a bleach mixed with water solution to kill the mold spores. This way when I resuse the sponges and cloth, I won't be infecting my other leather goods with them.

Final Impressions and Results

The end result for both jackets after using Leather Nova's leather cleaning products on them is that they looked revived and renewed. My jackets all had their resilience back and the colors no longer had a dull appearance. The colors were bright and shiny as if I just bought them from the store.  They also had the new leather smell to them after applying these products.

This is what Jacket 2 looked like after it was dry using
Leather Nova 2-in-1 Leather Cleaner with Conditioner.
I actually liked the results of 2-step Leather Nova process more for the red jacket than the 1-step process for the black jacket because the leather looked and felt much softer. If I had to pick, I would suggest getting the cleaner and conditioner separately instead of the 2-in-1 for the best color results.

Just warning you though that it does take a little while to wipe down a whole jacket. If you want something quick and to be done in one go then the Leather Nova 2-in-1 Cleaner and Conditioner would be better for you.

If you are curious about how old these jackets are, both were purchased about 15-20 years ago by my mother. I am very impressed and happy with the results and cannot wait to use it on my leather handbags and belts that look lackluster. It is safe to clean on all leathers except suede and nubuck so keep that in mind before making the purchase.
